We offer individual support to help researchers navigate citation data, and the analysis tools available to University of Manchester staff. This can help you:

Consultancy
The Research Indicators service provides consultancy for University and Department leaders. Projects we’ve worked on include:
- Providing in depth analysis of the contribution citations make to University rankings.
- Mapping research activity against the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), to support the University in the THE Impact Rankings.
- Helping the University’s Research Platforms map relevant research outputs.
We also help collate citation data and metrics at the institutional, departmental, and Unit of Assessment level.

Research metrics tools
The Office for Open Research uses a suite of tools to enable research metrics analysis, as well as guidance on using these systems effectively.
We support the following platforms, including API access: Scopus, Scival, Web of Science, Incites, Overton, OpenAlex and Altmetric Explorer.

Responsible metrics
The University of Manchester is committed to the responsible use of research metrics, and joined the Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA) in 2025. In partnership with the University’s Research Culture Manager the Office for Open Research leads the implementation of our CoARA action plan.
